Re: Find a hiking partner
Hi Yankale,

Which is the best months to walk from North to South and can you recommend any hiking guides that take individuals/groups on the full walk. I am from South Africa and would like to know if I am planning for
a North to South walk in say Sept/Oct/Nov/Dec which months would be suitable to start and end.

Appreciate your posts on the trail

Start in early to mid Octorber in the north and complete the hike in late November in Eilat.  Some rain can be expected mainly in the northern part.

I am not familiar with guides that take individuals or groups on a full distance. There are local guides that take groups but on short section only.

And the best time of the year to hike the distance is from mid February to late March/early April  starting from the south. Not sure if it's best for you.

Re: Find a hiking partner
Thank you for your reply. It looks like you know much about this walk. I feel very worried about the desert area. i am not used to that kind of walk. I have done our deset area in South Africa but we had many vehicles passing us by so it was easy to get a lift to our next place to sleep when we were finished walking. I feel very nervous about the desert but I also know that I can do all things through G-d that strengthens me. Thank you for helping people like me to get information and yes I will be buying the book on the walk.

Re: Find a hiking partner
In the Negev desert you are never far from a village or a road. The most remote place is ~20 km (12.5 mi) from a village. If you are concerned about water and particularly water caching I suggest that you skip the caching at all. There is a good solutiion that does not require water caching.

May I suggest that you  look here  and download all the relevant info. there. It will make you less nervous about the desert. A lot of tourists have already hiked the desert. I'd say the key issue is being prepared and knowing all your options. And having the maps and the guide during the planning stage helps too.
