partner?

Shalom Everyone,

I am a 54-year-old female backpacker from the US. I'm hoping to start a thru-hike of the INT, north-bound from Eilat, the first week of March. I usually hike alone but have seen warnings not to do so in the Negev.  My experience does not include this kind of desert.  I have backpacked in different areas on the east coast of the US and, this past summer, spent a few weeks in California's Sierra Nevadas.  I'm  hoping to average 8-10 miles a day on the INT but have no idea if this new environment will make me slower or faster.

This hike is a special dream. Anyone want to join me for all or part of the Negev? I speak a basic Hebrew. Any advice?

Thnks for any help.

In the desert you hike between one water source (/water cache) to the next one. It will be difficult to plan on an average distance if you do not reach water by the end of the day. Places where water is available and places to cache water in the desert are listed here  . You can also look for a partner here.  Enjoy the hike.

Re: partner?

Hi Lillih,

What a great way to start long-distance hiking. How long do you plan to be on the trail?

Right now my plans are to do the whole trail going from south to north. If I can make it this year, I will be on the trail by March 1st and plan on about 3 months so I can do some side-trips.

If you want to chat about backpacking or the trail, email me at tziptrip@yahoo.com.

Re: partner?

Shalom again,

Unexpected events have changed my plans and I will not be able to start my hike this spring.  I will post for a partner again when I can.      To all those lucky hikers - have a great time!   Thanks!
