Hi Maxim,

If you are inexperienced and hit the trail for 4-5 days in the desert, make sure you are well prepared. There is not much difference if you go for 5 days or 5 weeks. You need to train, get proper gear, cache water or have someone bring water to you by the end of each day etc.

If you have the guide all the info. you need is there. If you don't have the guide please read here, there is a lot of info. availble.

Enjoy the hike.

Re: hiking partners for 8-12.10.2010

Thanks for the advice.

We now shortened the tour to 3-4 days.

Now some practical questions:

How's the weather in the Negev at night at the moment?

Do you know if it's possible to hitchhike on the route 25 to Eilat some kilometers?

And to call a taxi from Dimona or better Yeruham to the foot of one of the crater and how expensive it would be?

Maxim.

Weather - 14-16 c at night.

Hitchhiking near Dimona on route 25 is possible.

Taxi from Dimona (there are no taxies in Yeruham):

To the bottom of the small crater - NIS 120-140 same cost to the top of the small crater.

To the foot of the large crater - ~NIS 100.

If you plan to call a taxi make sure you talk to the driver before you start hiking. At the bottom of the small crater cell phones do not work.

If you are inexperienced Do not attempt to hike the Karbolet (day 35s in the guide) it is the most difficult day of the entire trail, it is dangerous if you get stuck in the middle of the descent after sunset and/or without water.
