Food resupply

Here in the states, on the PCT, CDT and AT, hikers count on resupplying food every 5 to 7 days. On the other hand, we can figure on getting water from some natural source pretty much every day. I take it things are different on the INT--you don't need to carry more than a couple days worth of food and as for water (in the desert), you have to make arrangements for water caches every day. Am I correct in this?

Also, the places where one resupplies food--can you buy "typical" hiker food like oatmeal and dried fruit for breakfast; Pringles potato chips, peanut butter, energy bars, and pepperoni for snacking thru-out the day; and prepackaged pasta-like dinners and dried veggies for supper? I can probably bring over from the states a weeks' worth of food for starters, if it was worth the hassle.

Re: Food resupply

Does that mean there's only those 2 major supply towns and otherwise, inbetween, you've got to be creative and go with whatever you might find in various smaller towns (or as we call them in the states, convenience stores)?

In the north Dan to Arad you can resupply almost every day.

In the south from Arad to Eilat the resupply points are:

6 days after Arad : Midreshet Ben Gurion 6 km (4 mi) off trail

2-3 days later: Mizpe Ramon on the trail

3 days later: Sapir / Zofar both are only 1 km off trail

1 day later:  Paran 7 km (4 mi) off trail.

2 days later: Neot Smadar (restaurant and store) on the trail

2 days later: Yotvata (Elifaz) 10 km (6 mi) off trail

3 days later: Eilat.

When you cache water leave there food too,  just make sure all food is double wrapped with nylon to protect it from animals.

You have all the details where exactly to cach water ( and food) in the guide. Also there are tel. numbers for caching service.
