Really liked your googlesite; was part of Australia are you from?  I studied in Brisbane for a semester in college and did some hiking around there and other parts of Australia.

I guess you forgot to mention that Shvil means Trail (in Hebrew), and in Israel when we say Shvil we mean the INT... unlike some other countreis where they have several long trails....PCT, CDT, AT, JMT etc....

BTW Greg: How are they abbreviating The Arizona Trail  ?

Re: the Trail by stages

I have seen the Arizona Trail abbreviated AZT.  AZ is the postal abbreviation for Arizona.  It is pretty rare that I have someone abbreviate it w/o mentioning the trail name first in the post.

Re: the shvil by stages

A year ago I organized a group of friends to hike the trail in segments about once a month. We are in the ~50 age bracket, good hikers, but not super-athletes. We hike segments that are about 15 kilometers in length, usually about 2/3 the length of the segments defined by Zvi Gilat in his guidebook. Typically we hike north to south, but will switch direction for the sake of simplifying logistics (i.e., "caching" cars at end and start points).
I take lots of photos and blog about our hikes. http://lisasterisk.wordpress.com/israel-trail-hikes/

Day trips on the Israel Trail

Last week (Passover week) my group hiked from the Yesha Fortress to Nahal Dishon, ending at the Alma Bridge on route 886 (segment 3). A summary and photos of our excursion are now on my blog.
