British Midland, the UK's third largest airline, will launch flights to Israel in the spring of 2008. An agreement to this effect was recently signed by the Ministry of Transport and the Department of Transport in the UK.
British Midland intends to operate a daily flight to Israel from Heathrow Airport. The company says the approval was granted following intensive lobbying by the UK government to allow the route to Israel to be opened up to additional carriers. The carriers currently operating regular flights to London are El Al Israel Airlines Ltd. (TASE: ELAL), and British Airways (LSE:BAY).
