Sea to Sea trail
Modified By Yankale on 2/9/2009 5:15:00 AM)

It goes from the Mediterranean sea north of Nahariya to the Sea of Galille (Kinneret). Approx. 80 km / 50 miles 3-4 days. The last two days are on the INT.

The last two days are described in the INT guide days 6s and 7s. For the first two days you need to buy the hebrew map of the SPNI, map #2 I think.

Day 1: Carry water for the whole day, no place to refill.  Achziv shore on route 4 (6 km north of Nahariya), Nahal Keziv (green trail) to Ma'alot (approx. 22 km). The water in Nahal (creek) Keziv is contaminated and is not suitable for drinking or bathing.

General description: Start on Achziv sea shore. Hike in Nahal Achziv east for ~7 km on a non marked trail. Arrive to Avdon junction  on route 70. Take the green trail east, it goes for about 5 km along a road. From Hardalit (Mekorot - the national water suplier - pumping station) hike east on the green trail. it goes in Nahal Keziv. Pass below the Montfort. Continue east on the green trail. Arrive to Ein Ziv (Another mekorot pumping station).

From Ein Ziv it is forbidden to hike east in Nahal Keziv, the area is dedicated to wildlife only.

Climb to Ma'alot on the road that winds on a montain's side and arrive to Ma'alot.

Day 2: Ma'alot / Zuriel - Mount Meron (approx. 17 km)

Carry water for the whole day, no place to refill.

Go along the main road (89) to Zuriel (3 km east of Ma'alot). The road is very busy take extra caution, hike on its' left side. I'd recommend taking a taxi or bus to Zuriel to avoid mishaps.

Go down on a non marked trail back to Nahal Keziv. Continue east to Elkosh junction which is another 4 km to the east. From Elkosh junction take the green trail east in Nahal Keziv.  Hike east approx 6 km. Now take a red trail in Nahal Neriya and climb in Nahal Neriya to Mt. Meron (~5 km). The last 1 km is a steep climb. Here you connect to the INT.

Day 3: Mt. Meron to Tzfat (approx. 20 km.) Day 6s in the INT guide.

Day 4: Tzfat - Sea of Galilee (approx. 20 km). Day 7s in the INT guide.

On the last day instead of going to Migdal go east along Nahal Amud to the Kinneret (Sea of Galilee).

Time of year: Spring, part of summer, fall and part of winter.

Will be included in the second edition of the GUIDE

Re: Sea to Sea trail

Hey there. I want to go on the sea to sea hike next week, but I cant find anywhere how to do it. I have found a few sites with blogs, and this is the only thread I can find on the site with relevance to this hike. I understand that it will be included in the second edition of the book, but what if I want to hike before then? Is there anyway to do it using the first edition? Could I use the maps in the book to complete the hike? Is there any problems with refilling water? Or can I just hike knowing the destination place as listed above and go in that general direction? Thanks so much! Evan

Re: Sea to Sea trail

Sweet! Thanks so much for the quick response too! I cant wait to go! Can I get the map at any hiking store, i.e. Lametayel or Rikoshet? Is Ma'alot a place that I can refill water before the second day, or do I have to carry more then 1 days worth of water? Can I generally put up a tent at the end points to set up a NC or is that not allowed? Thanks so much!

Yes you can get the map from any hiking store and book stores Tzomet Sfarim & Steimatzky.

Ma'alot is a town. There are supermarkets banks etc. You can't put your tent there wherever you want.

In about a month or so there will be a camping site in Ma'alot but it's too late fot you. Try your best.

Putting your tent along the trail is forbidden since it's a nature preserve. At the end point of each day you can look for a place to set your

tent. On Mt. Meron field school you can have a room for a reduced price NIS 50 based on availability, and the Youth hostel in Safed.

BTW: Keep an eye on the weather forecast. Tomorrow is about the only rainy day in weeks. It can create muddy conditions along the trail.

Re: Sea to Sea trail

There is no guide in English.  If you can read Hebrew then the guide for you is the Hebrew guide for the INT and it has the Yam le Yam too. Enjoy.
