Kavia:

There's not much available in English right now, but several of us will be hiking through the southern half of the Negev in March. After the hike it won't take us long to publish the new portion of the data book relating to that area. Meanwhile, there are several people on the site who can answer any specific questions you have.

Good luck and welcome to the forum!

In a short time a guide in English will be available. You'll have all the info + maps.

Re: cross the desert

Yes you can do this section in two days, it's 48 Km, but you must be in a very good hiking shape, the first 15 km are very difficult with a total of 1000 m of ascent.

I'd hike it from Timna to Eilat...

Re: cross the desert

Thanks for the quick answer!!!

As far as I know, the Red Canyon is not a part of the INT!

Is that right?

If its right, is there a rout from the Red Canyon to the INT?

I think it would be nice to start the trip there....

Greetingd

Re: cross the desert

The red canyon is not on the INT, it's approx. 7-8 km hike west of the INT. You take a black trail east from the red canyon, and then a green trail east until you hit the INT.

Make a right turn south and you have approx. 30 km to Eilat.

My personal opinion is that  Timna Park is a better starting point, it's much more beautiful than the red canyon.
